FACE is recognised by the European Commission as the representative body for Europe’s 7 million hunters. It is consulted by the relevant Commission Directorates-General and Units during the preparation, elaboration and monitoring of EU legislation dealing with hunting, wildlife management, nature conservation, firearms, trapping, wild animal health, game meat hygiene, etc. FACE draws upon the expertise of its Members, representative national hunter’s associations from 36 European countries consisting of all 27 Member States of the EU and 9 States from the Council of Europe.
The hunting community has an influence over large areas of countryside throughout Europe, with strong links to agriculture and forestry. FACE through its member associations has a widespread and well connected network within this community and is able to effectively transmit information on biodiversity policy from central level and provide feedback on the practicalities of its implementation and local level.
FACE has a close working relationship with other Conservation NGOs such as BirdLife International, with which it signed an Agreement in October 2004, under the framework of the European Commission’s Sustainable Hunting Initiative.
The FACE headquarters is based in Brussels is fully operational in several languages and is particularly suited to participating in collaborative projects.
